The project
Stock Gaylard House dates from the 17th century and had received no attention for over 30 years. The new owners, having inherited the house, decided that their first project was to overhaul the kitchen, boot room and butler’s pantry.
The challenges
The house was listed, meaning that all work needed to be carried out sympathetically. At the design stage, close liaison was needed with both the local authority’s conservation officer and English Heritage.
The solution
Sarah Lyall, our in-house interior designer, whose previous experience included working for the National Trust, came up with a design on which all parties agreed. Sarah then co-ordinated the manufacture of all of the joinery elements, ensuring that her strict specifications were met.
The result
A wonderful transformation occurred – and the rooms were changed, stepping back in time, but with the modern warmth. The clients were extremely delighted with the design and quality of the finish.
