The project
We were approached to work on the conversion of a derelict coach house, transforming it into holiday accommodation. We worked closely with the architects’ innovative and quirky design.
The challenges
An additional floor was required, to achieve the client’s desired accommodation needs of two double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a kitchen/dining room.
The solution
The additional floor required removal of the roof, as well as taking the current structure back to four walls. The roof level was then raised, using flint blocks set in stone quoins, with special attention given to the lime pointing and stressing of the stonework. The most exciting features of the renovated coach house were the new spiral staircase and glazed turret. This involved building a 2m-diameter brick-faced cylinder onto which the glazed turret was set.
The result
A beautifully soft-featured building, unique and unusual, providing wonderful quality accommodation which guests will really enjoy, time and time again.
