The project
BV Dairy obtained grant funding from DEFRA, under a rural development grant, for the construction of a new processing unit to help to expand its production and range of dairy products. The building would also improve distribution and provide quick turnaround for its delivery fleet.
The challenges
BV Dairy’s strict hygiene standards had to be complied with, as expected in a manufacturing and food-processing environment – not easy with dust and concrete around. Critical turnaround times had to be achieved, to ensure that BV Dairy’s delivery fleet was not disrupted, even when large bays of concrete required pouring and setting.
The solution
Along with the everyday design and construction challenges which we face on all projects, our site team worked additionally hard, liaising with BV Dairy’s production manager to ensure that its business remained fully operational. Detailed work schedules were provided, to allow concrete bays to be poured just after lorries left the plant, with drying times monitored to ensure access for the lorries’ return.
The result
The project was completed on target and within budget, during which time we ensured that BV Dairy operated fully. The building was opened by the Duchess of Gloucester, as arranged before commencement.
