The project
A previous client, Albourne Estates approached Snibor to negotiate the construction of a new bowls and tennis club facility at Ilminster, Somerset. This was enabling works for a larger development involving a new Tesco store. The project included new changing rooms and meeting rooms, gallery and staff accommodation, tennis courts and indoor bowling green.
The challenges
Our initial challenge was the removal and relocation of bats, slow worms and badgers from the site, before any ground work could commence. The location and tight site in the town centre also made logistics and access difficult, plus the current club would remain open throughout.
The solution
Working closely with reptile experts, the site was cleared of slow worms (over a period of 60 days). At the same time, badgers were relocated to new setts on the extremities of the site. Transport in and out of the site was closely controlled and scheduled, to ensure that this small town centre did not reach gridlock. Snibor formed a close working relationship with the bowls and tennis club on site, to allow the current club house and green to remain open to members throughout the construction period.
The result
The excellent facility provided first-class opportunities to enjoy bowls and tennis in Ilminster.
